This May for the 535 we will be returning to Big Lick’s. It will be a great night on the deck and if you stay long enough maybe even under the stars. Big Lick’s will provide appetizers. If you need more than a lite bite, menus are also available. The best part is Happy Hour drink specials will be extended. If it rains, no worries, we will just move inside.

If you have never been to the Kirkley Hotel for one of their socials, you are in for a treat! Come on out to the YPCV’s April 535! We are going to meet in the Lounge at the Kirkley Hotel. For only $5.00 you can enjoy some delicious appetizers and have access to the following drink specials: Drafts $1.25, Wine $2.00, and House drinks $2.50.
As always, the monthly 535 starts at 5:35 pm but you are welcome to show up whenever you can! Remember to bring a business card so you can register to win the door prize!

535 @ Academy of Fine Arts rescheduled to Thursday, February 7, 2008!

Come enjoy appetizers and wine at the Academy of Fine Arts in downtown Lynchburg. Enter to win a drawing for a pair of tickets the popular play Steel Magnolias ($32 value). Pick up a voucher for discounts on future Academy productions, and get a sneak peek inside one of the most exciting renovations happening downtown! Plus have an opportunity to mingle with members of the Academy’s Board of Trustees.

The 535 will begin at 5:35 pm in the Warehouse Theatre Lobby, corner of 5th Commerce Streets, downtown. The evening will feature tours of the historic 1905 Academy of Music Theatre, currently under renovation and not open to the public. The first commercial building in Lynchburg to be placed on the National Historic Registry, it’s one of Central Virginia’s most notable historic treasures of the last century. Bundle up-the theatre is chilly, but worth a peek (we’ll have hot chocolate to warm you up!).

Tickets for the 535 are just $5.00 at the door and include the finger foods and one drink ticket. After that, there will be wine available for $2.00 per glass.

The Academy of Fine Arts is a non-profit organization committed to being the center of arts in Lynchburg. Arts classes for all ages (from watercolor to pottery to photography to cooking…) are offered in the Arts Education Center. The Academy Galleries feature new exhibits of local and regional artists during the First Friday receptions. The Academy of Fine Arts also features a variety of national and local talent on stage in its Warehouse Theatre, featuring favorites such as The Second City Comedy Tour, and Academy Players productions of Steel Magnolias, Guys Dolls, and more!

The 2008 Groundhog Day Shadowing Experience is brought to you through a partnership of Sweet Briar College and the Live Committee of YPCV. Job shadowing is a work experience option where students learn about a job by walking through the work day as a shadow to a competent worker. You could host a student shadow for as little as two hours or for as much as an entire day during the week of Monday, February 4th - Friday, February 8, 2008.

If you are interested, please download and fill out the Job Shadowing Experience form and fax, email, or mail it back to Kristin Ewing in the Sweet Briar Services Career Services Center by Monday, January 14th.
